Hartcliffe is a suburban development on the southern edges of Bristol next to Withywood on the northern slopes of Dundry hill situated on the edge of Bs13. Construction started in 1952 after the compulsory purchase of a number of pre-existing farms. Imperial Tobacco once had offices and a factory in Hartcliffe. Part of the site is now the Imperial Park shopping centre while the listed headquarters building is being converted into the Lakeshore flats.
The estates were built in the 1950’s and 1960’s and are home to a population of around 20,000 people. There are a number of schools within Hartcliffe that include; Fair Furlong Primary School, Bridge Learning Campus and Hareclive Academy That have had Ofsted ratings of outstanding and good.
With house prices anywhere between £160,000 to £220,000 and it being a 15 to 20-minute drive to Bristol Temple Meads it could be the perfect area for someone wanting to live out of the inner city but still within driving distance.
Other nearby facilities include the new £35m Hengrove Leisure Park which includes a 50 metre-long ‘Olympic standard swimming pool’ and a four-court sports hall, gym, exercise studios and a health suite. Also, the new £45 million community hospital in Hengrove opened on 30th March 2012. It provides people in South Bristol with diagnostic tests and therapy services closer to their homes. It also houses Bristol's first Urgent Care Centre for minor illnesses and injuries. Finally, the new Link road that has been developed to allow residents to travel directly to the M5.
